NEW SMIK Wing Ding V5
Share
Evolving from the V4, the new Wing Ding V5 feature an increased central draft, resulting in more power and stability, which further improves handling and control. The use of an innovative material from Dimension Polyant for the leading edge section, combined with the new one-piece carbon boom create stiffness only felt in far more expensive materials.
They will be available in Europe in three colors, and a total of 9 sizes, from 2.5m² to 7.0m², including a new 5.5m² size.

The new SMIK Wing Ding V5 is the result of the experience and expertise acquired over the last four iterations, becoming our most refined and polished wing yet.
If we first look at the build of the wing, we can see the V5 uses the same high-performance Code-Tec fabrics and stress loading panel optimization as its predecessor the V4. Although slightly heavier than certain other brands, the tough and durable canopy doesn't stretch, offering a responsive, crisp feeling with a much superior life span, ensuring the wings aren't bagged out after a season. We've also kept the slightly lighter, more breathable Code-Tec fabric near the leading edge to help generate power and allow the wing to breathe.
There are however certain material upgrades, like the introduction of an innovative Dimension Polyant fabric section on the leading edge, which provides added overall stiffness to the wing without any extra weight.

Over to the geometry, the central draft is more pronounced on the Wing Ding V5, while remaining flat in the tips. This provides increased power but also stability thanks to the higher skin tension, which helps to get going and pump onto the foil faster and more efficiently, without pulling you off your center line.
Based on the extremely positive feedback we've had on the small batch of V4 with boom that were produced earlier this year, we've decided to completely ditch the handles and go for a one-piece carbon boom: extra freedom of hand movement in tacks, jibes and tricks, easier placement of harness lines, but also the additional rigidity it brings to the strut make the wing feel lighter in your hands.
On the water, the increased power is immediately noticeable, with the deeper central draft aiding in pumping onto the foil, but not overwhelmingly powerful. Once up and riding, the power locks in forward, for a wing that's super balanced and stable when sheeted in, but also as you de-power: no flutter, no drag, just seamless transitions.
Although its upwind efficiency and top speed are extremely good, it's when you go into surf or downwind mode that it really begins to shine: when thrown back, it just floats behind with no drag and follows automatically, with no reactions to sharp redirections or gusts, proving once again it is the ultimate surf wing.
As Scotty says, a "superior product that lasts longer and costs less".
We also got one of them tested by an independent reviewer in Sydney, Australia: Hydro Gav. Have a look at his report below:
